MUSSOLINI’S DECREE.

Rents, Food Prices and Wages Reduced. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ROME, April 14. The salaries of Italian State employees over £8 a month have been reduced by from six to twelve per cent. Rents have simultaneously been reduced twelve per cent. Civil and military pensions are exempt, but the retail prices of food are being reduced ten per cent. The decree ordering reductions will come into operation on Monday. Signor Mussolini decreed the reductions with his characteristic suddenness. They include a 20 per cent cut in the salaries of ministers. The tax on bachelors is increased by 50 per cent. It is rumoured that the decree will be followed by a general reduction of wages throughout the country in erder equally to distribute the fall. It is officially announced that wool, copper and coffee will in future only be imported by licenses granted in relation to the balance of trade with the countries concerned.
