FRANCE CUTS COSTS.
80,000 Civil Servants to be Retired. PARIS, April S. The economies authorised by the French Government will involve the retirement of 80,000 officials and a saving of £36,000,000. Further decrees are being prepared for additional economies estimated at £14,000,000. Possibly ex-service men w-ill be affected. The Cabinet is also considering a public works scheme iO employ 100,300 as an alternative to reducing the unemployment insurance fund. If the civil service cuts do not le*d to serious trouble, the Government will proceed with other reforms.
