8.8. C. to Permit Criticism of Budget. INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT. British Ofti.-’.al Wireless. (Received April 16, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY’, April 14. Mr Neville Chamberlain, who will on Txiesday evening deliver his Budget speech to the House of Commons, will later broadcast an explanatory statement of its contents in the national programme. This marks a new and interesting departure in the practice. Later in the week, while the Budget debate is continuing in the House, short talks, probably of a critical character, will be given on the subject by leaders of the Opposition parties. Major C. R. Attlee (Labour) and Sir Herbert Samuel (Liberal). A reply on behalf of the Government to these critics will be broadcast at the e.nd of the week.
