SOCIALISM.
Since Mr Bernard Shaw, in his broadcast talk, referred to New Zealand as a “ communistic country,” there has been some speculation as to the particular respect in which the description applies, and at the annual meeting of the Sydenham-Cashmere-Spreydon subbranch of the Plunket Society yesterday afternoon Mrs Gilmour described the society’s work as the “ highest type of Socialism.” She said she was glad that Mr Bernard Shaw and Sir Truby King had met in Wellington, as Sir Truby was a great admirer of Shaw. She had been interested in Mr Shaw’s remarks that New Zealand was rather a communistic country, and she considered that the work of the Plunket Society was the nicest kind of Socialism or Communism, whichever they preferred to call it. The Plunket So- ! cietv was founded on the idea of mutual benefit and it handed on benefits, not only to this generation, but the next as well.
