Hospital Board Beats the Staff. The members of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, including- two of the women representatives, played a cricket match with a team drawn from the hospital staff at Hagley Park yesterday afternoon. After a close struggle, in which boundaries were frequent, the board team won by sixteen runs on the first innings. The board made 182 for nine wickets and declared, and put the staff team out for 166 runs. F. Rowell was the Bradman of the board side, retiring after a sound 33, while L. B. Evans wasted little time in hitting up 24. T. Thompson was another batsman who got on top of the attack and retired with 22 to his credit, a score which was equalled by H. Bennett in a workmanlike knock. Mrs J. A. Bean upheld the reputation of the women cricketers of the board with a varied 12, Mrs T. Green falling by the wayside with 3. after opening the innings. The wickets were split up, Gudgeon and Johnston taking two and Ferguson, Duncan and Hooke one apiece. Evans was in good form with the ball and soon got among the staff batsmen, finishing with four wickets, after breaking the back of the innings. Walter notched three wickets and Bennett secured a similar number. R. M’Cann led the batting list with a hurried 30, R. Gabin was next with 29 and W. Gudgeon hit up 22. Umpires’ Match.
