Women’s Foursomes at Shirley. The semi-finals in the New Zealand women’s autumn foursomes were played this morning at Shirley in perfect weather, with a slight southerly. The players were Mrs M’Killop and Miss Cracroft Wilson conceding eight strokes to Mrs Tingey and Mrs Scott, and Miss Beadel and Miss Johnston conceding eight strokes to Mrs D. C. Macfarlane and Mrs Dearden. The results were: Mrs M’Killop and Miss Cracroft Wilson beat Mrs Tingey and Mrs Scott, 3 and 1. Mrs D. G. Macfarlane and Mrs P. R. Dearden beat Miss Beadel and Miss Johnston, 2 and l. Both matches produced erood games. Mrs M’Killop and Miss Wilson started off by winning the first hole. The next three were halved. Mrs Scott and Mrs Tingev squared at Furthest North. Mrs M’Killop and Miss Cracroft Wilson then took three in a ron, being 3 up at the turn, which they reached in 40. Thev took the tenth and lost the eleventh. No. 12 was halved. Mrs Scott and Mrs Tingey won Old Nick, but a faulty second cost them No. 14. only to be redeemed by a magnificent 2 at. Farthest South. At this stage, with only a margin of two, the match was interesting, especially as Mrs M’Killop and Miss Cracroft Wilson were giving a stroke at No. 16. The hole was indifferently played, Mrs Tinerey saving a half with a fine nutt. Mrs M’Killop and Miss Cracroft. Wilson were now dorniy and, taking the seventeenth with a fine 4. won the match, 3 and 1. With the aid of a stroke, Mrs Macfarlane and Mrs Dearden started off by winning the first hole in the other semifinal. They also won the second, only to lose No. 3. and a stroke enabled them to get a half at No. 4. They won No. 3 without a stroke. The next three holes were halved, and winning the ninth Mrs Macfarlane and Mrs Dearden reached the turn with an advantage of 3 up, being out in 45 to their opponents’ 46. Mrs Macfarlane and Mrs Dearden won the tenth, hut lost the next two. They took Old Nick with a 3. Miss Beadel and Miss Johnston made a good effort to reduce the margin and succeeded in winning Shirley and Furthest South, leaving them only 1 down. Mrs Macfarlane and Mrs Dearden replied by winning the Pagoda halving No. 17 to win the game. 2 and 1. (Yesterday’s play is reported on Page 15.) ..
