FIRE PREVENTION.
Board Holds Its Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board was held last evening, Mr T. M. Charters presiding The superintendent (Mr C. C. Warner) in his report stated that from March 7, twelve calls had been received. Of these, six we ret for fires on property in the city, two were rubbish and grass fires, three were malicious false alarms and the other an automatic false alarm. Arrangements have been made to hold a Fire Prevention Week during the present month and the dates selected were April 16 to 21. Arrangements had also been made to give two radio talks on the subject Much valuable work had been done at the Fire Brigades’ Conference held at Hamilton during March and he had been re-elected as president of the New Zealand Institute, thus holding the positions of president of both fire institutes for the current year. He had completed the valuation of property owned by the board. The estimated value of the land and buildings was £28,882 11s 3d and the estimated value of plant, furniture and stock £14,539 2s Id. The grand total was £43,421 13s 4d. Offer of Property. Mr J. Gregg wrote offering to sell a property on the western boundary of the central station facine Tuam Street for the sum of £2700. It was decided to reply that the board had no intention of purchasing a property at the present time. Officers were elected as follows: Chairman, Mr T. M. Charters; deputy chairman, Mr E. H. Andrews; joint eecutive and finance committee, Messrs E. H. Andrews, T. M. Charters and C. A. Cooper. The estimates for 1934-35 were approved at £12,000, the same as for the previous year.
