ICELAND SHAKEN
Tremendous Eruption of Volcano. REYKJAVIK (Iceland). April 2. A tremendous eruption of the Skeider \ oeckel volcano, in the south-east of Iceland during the week-end, fortunately cost no lives. Immense blocks of ice were flung from the Skeider Glacier into the Skeider River, which normally carries boiling water * from subterranean springs, and is now swollen into a torrent. Although Reykjavik is 200 miles from the volcano, the eruption could be plainly seen in the shape of a column of fire, estimated to be more than 3000l"t high.
