TROTTING NOTES.

tl (3 ID HI SI IS (H 3 IS I*l 333333 333 HI ! ACCEPTANCES for the Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting will close at eight o’clock to-night. * * ❖ * . Nominations for two trotting events at the Amberlev Racing Club’s meeting will close at eight o’clock to-night. ! PETER BINGEN. ' Peter Bingen, winner of two New j Zealand Trotting Cups, is again in work at Tamahere. His owner, Mr W. John--1 stone, stated at Hawera that Peter i Bingen, who while in the paddock ■’keeps himself fit by constant gallop- • ing, is doing fine work over sprint i courses. In the event of Walla Walla j being engaged at the Waikato Trotting | Club’s meeting next month, Mr John- : stone said he would be prepared to pit Peter Bingen against the Australian over a mile FIRST WRACK. The trotting mare First Wrack has a great record for consistency. In her last sixteen starts she has been thirteen times in the money. Last season she competed six times for one win, two seconds and three thirds. This season she has sported silk on ten occasions for two wins, three seconds and two thirds. First Wrack has developed into a beautiful mare and she has won over all distances. She began her racing career as a two-year-old, when she gained the admiration of the crowd at Ashburton by running third in a handicap race. That was on April 21, 1928. In that event First Wrack trotted the mile and a half in 3min 46 3-ssec. Soon after that Mr H. F. Nicoll declined an offer in the region of 800 guineas for her. She then developed some affliction in one of her nostrils and for a lengthy period this affected her stamina. When free of the trouble she is in the first flight of trotters in the Dominion. * * * * Greatfast, a recent winner in the North Island, is a three-year-old pacer by Great Bingen from Slaplast, an American-bred mare, who came to the Dominion with a big reputation and a yearling record of 2min 22]sec against her. When raced here her form was very poor, the mare failing to show either speed or stamina. Slapfast is a well-bred mare, being by Trampfast from The Apparent, by The Exponent. Greatfast was bred at Roydon Lodge by Mr J. R. M’Kenzie, but is now owned and trained by P. Corrigan at Blenheim. * * * * Gold Dredge is reported as being in great fettle at Paeroa, where she is under the supervision of W. Clifton, and she is to compete in the Hikutaia Handicap at Thames. At her last start at Auckland, Gold Dredge finished particularly fast to gain second place behind Home Brew, her time being 3min 30 4-ssec. On that occasion she was boring out badly on the bends, and this fault contributed largely to her defeat. The Thames course is the opposite way round, and Gold Dredge should perform well on Saturday. * * * * A. M’Garrv is persevering on the tracks at Auckland with the disappointing Student Prince, who is in excellent condition. He has plenty of speed, but is lacking in stamina, and his trainer will deserve the highest credit should he succeed in picking up a race with Student Prince. M’Garry is allotting Glandore plenty of solid work, and the roan horse looks a picture. He is being prepared for the Thames Trotting Cup on Saturday, but his prospects do not appear too bright, as he -will be conceding handicaps to some improving young horses, especially Chancellor and Worthy Light. * * * * The Takanini trainer. F. J. Smith, took a team of four horses to the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting, but added to his team for the Hawera meeting, making a total of nine competitors for the circuit. He had a great run with his representatives over the three weeks’ racing, and his horses started at very short prices on practically every occasion. Altogether, Smith gained twelve firsts, nine seconds and two thirds, while his horses were unplaced on only two occasions. It was an excellent performance, and further enhanced Smith’s prospects of again heading the winning trainers and drivers’ list. TROTTING FIXTURES. April 11—Reef ton J.C. April 14—Ashburton T.C.
