WALLA WALLA PLEASES Training Operations at Addington.
Rain pvernight left the track on the soft side for early work at Addington this morning, but the footing improved considerably as the day progressed. A southerly was in evidence. A big number of horses were given fast work, several Ashburton candidates registering pleasing efforts. Walla Walla (L. S. Martin) was the star performer. In a bout over one mile and a quarter he had a start of two seconds from Auburn Lad (W. M’Kay). Walla Walla made the pace all the way and finished four lengths in front of Auburn Lad. Walla Walla, who went unhoppled, gave a splendid exhibition of pacing, and recorded 2 min 44 2-ssec for the journey. He did the first half mile in lmin 7sec, the mile in 2min Msec, and completed the last two furlongs in 30 2-ssec. Auburn Lad had the hopples on. He hit out attractively, and finished well. Trireme and Midshipmaid were associated in a spin over one mile and 4 a hal*. Trireme made the pace for a mile, where Midshipmaid ran up to her and they finished on terms. The twelve furlongs were left behind in 3min 32sec, *he first mile occupying 2min 18sec. Happi and 4 an unnamed companion paced a mile and a half in 3min 30se*_\ taking 2min 19sec to cover the first mile. Wise Guy, with A. Butterfield in the sulky, strode a mile and a half in 3min 35sec. The first mile was traversed in 2min 24 2-ssec. G-ood Work. Fairyland and Norman Fox left three seconds in front of darner in a spin over two miles. With a mile and a half covered Garner ran up to her colleagues. Norman Fox and Garner were together at the bend for home, and they finished? almost in line. Norman Fox did 4min 47sec, Garner 4min 45sec. Fairyland was about five lengths further back. Black Jester and Winning Wave were associated in an interesting assignment over one mile and a half. Black Jester acted as pacemaker for one mile, where Winning Wave shot up on the insid.2 of him. They finished on terms. Black Jester registered 3min 26 2-ssec and Winning Wave did 3min 25 2-ssec. Golden Dollar was responsible for one mile in 2min 20sec. BicMy Parrish had six seconds start from Mountain Dell in a brush over one mile and a quarter.l Biddy Parrish retained possession until the straight was reached, where Mountain Dell closed on her and they finished together. Biddy Parrish did 2min 51sec and Mountain Dell 2min 45sec. Two members of J. Young’s team acted as pacemakers to Morello over one mile and a half. Over the last furlong Morello clashed up to his companions, and was the first to cross the iine. He paced the mile and a half in 3min 25 3-ssec. War Paint’s task was one mile and a half in 3min 22sec. She did it well, and is in good order for her approaching engagements.
