Somerfield Body Discusses District’s Needs.

The annual meeting of the Somerfield Burgesses’ Association was held last evening. Air R. Jones presiding. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman said that the year had been a successful one, The report stated that in connection with the proposal for a recreation ground in the district, the City Council was waiting to see if the Commissioner of Crown Lands was prepared to recommend the issue of an Order-in-Councll authorising the sale of a number of subdivisional reserves, the proceeds to be devoted to the purchase of the ground. A substantial increase in the lighting of the district would take place this year. Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., had promised to give his assistance in obtaining a slot telephone at the corner of Cashmere Vie\v and Rose Street. The matter of a new bridge at Barrington Street was being held up until the recreation ground question was settled. The sub-station in Barrington Street would be removed by the City Council. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £3 8s sd. There was a credit balance of £l7 l§s lOd in the recreation ground account. The following officers were elected:— President, Air Jt. Jones; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Henderson and C. Dodds; ■honorary treasurer, Mr J. Wilson: honorary secretary, Mr J. W. Woodbury; honorary minute secretary, Mr H. H. Eddington; committee. Messrs S. Clark, E. Milligan, F. Milne, R. T. Robinson, P. Carew and J. A. Gibson. Addington Association. Air H. Henwood presided at a meeting of the Addington Burgesses’ Association •last evening, about twenty-five members being present. It was decided to notify the Spreydon Burgesses’ Association of the untidy state of a hedge on the corner of Strickland and Milton Streets, and request that steps be taken to have it cut back. A letter was received from the District Engineer of the Railway Department (Mr J. M’NaJr), stating that instructions had been issued to have the strip of ground between the railway fence and metalled part of Dryden Street dug up and made ready for the planting of shrubs by the Reserves Department of the City Council. A cards match against members of the Villa Euchre Club was fixed for April 23.
