"HAPPY EVER AFTER.”
Delightful Comedy With Catchy Music.
“ Happy Ever After,’* a delightful comedy, set to music, is the featured attraction at the Crystal Palace Theatre to-day. The deft handling of fantasy and reality in this fascinating picture is exceedingly clever. It is set in the carefree atmosphere of Berlin, and Jack Hulbert and Sonnie Hale appear as two window-cleaners. They see a wistful little girl, Jou-Jou, played by Lilian Harvey, being bullied by a commissionaire who, after informing her that he was tired of throwing her out, proceeds to do it again. The girl escapes on to the roof and is followed by the two young hopefuls. They guess that she is penniless and invite her to their “ country castle,” chaperoned by the “ colonel,” their elderly but kind factotum. The castle turns out to be some disused railway cars converted into living quarters. The girl is happy in her novel surroundings until she realises that she is causing friction between her fairy-godbrothers. The music and lyrics are catchy and tuneful, the two principal numbers being “In A Year and a Day ** and “ A Truly Rural Gentleman.” The acting is splendid throughout. Box plans at the D.I.C.
