BADCOCK’S CHANCE.
Will Play in Adelaide Next Season. C. L. (“Jack”) Badcock, Tasmania’s batsman, who hit up 105 against the Test team, at Launceston on March 10, has decided to play with' an Adelaide club next season. He intends to accept an attractive offer from Adelaide —which in some way apparently has the backing of the South Australian Cricket Association. Melbourne clubs that have been seeking Badcock’s services will be disappointed at his decision (says a Melbourne writer). Shield bowlers opposed to South Australia next season will have a heartbreaking task in trying to dismiss Bradman and Badcock! Badcock has been described as a “ second Bradman.” That is incorrect. Badcock, as yet, has not Bradman’s technique, vivacity or brilliance. Nor, in those qualities, is he ever likely to approach Bradman, great run-getter though he will probably become in big cricket. Stockily built and bronzed, Badcock, with his slightly phlegmatic batting temperament, is a mixture of Woodfull and Ponsford in their earlier days. He has plenty of courage and stamina, with imperturbable soundness.
