HIGHEST AWARD.
Greyhound Wins Prize at Big Show.
Something more than 2000 people lined the great ring at the Agricultural Hall, London, recently, says an English contemporary.
Three dogs were in the ring—a tiny orange Pomeranian, a blue roan Cocker, and a white and fawn greyhound. An hour before there were more than 50 dogs in the ring, all winners of challenge certificates. They had all gone; the judges had not been searching for their good points but for something, however trivial, on 'which to fault them.
Three only were left. Again and again the judges went over them, testing them for pose, action and physical proportions. The judges—Lorna Countess Howe, Major Harding Cox and Mr A. Crox-ton-Smith—deliberated; in any of the three dogs it w r as obviously difficult tc find a fault.
The judges made their decision, and to the accompaniment of tremendous
applause the red ticket was handed to the greyhound, Mr Hartland Worden’s Ch. Southball Moonstone from Devon* port. For the second time only in the 47 years’ history of Cruft’s a greyhound had won the highest obtainable award in the world. The “ Reserve ” card was handed to Mr H. S. Lloyd’s Cocker spaniel Whoopee of Ware. Mr Lloyd is the greatest prize-winner Cruft's has seen this year, for with four Cocker spaniels he has won two challenge certificates, a challenge cup, 22 first prizes, two second prizes and the trophy (or the best gun-dog in the show.
