“MERELY A BUFFER.”
Local Committees and Unemployment. Per Press Association. NELSON, April 7. Speaking to-day, the Mayor (Mr W. J. Moffatt) said that he was entirely in agreement with the reasons given by Mr George Page for his resignation of the chairmanship of the local unemployment committee. The reason was the unfair treatment of smaller centres by the Unemployment Board and the feeling that local committees were becoming merely a buffer between the board and the workers.
