(Special to the ** Star.”) AUCKLAND, April 7. In the Rosebank Handicap the best-, backed were Record Flight, Safe Bank and Horowhenua. The winner, Morehu, was eighth favourite and paid double figures. Record Flight and Campanero were on terms ahead of Safe Bank crossing the top. Then came Morehu, Supreme Ruler and Sir Val, with Brown Lap and Express handy. There was little change into the straight, but in the run home the leaders tired and Morehu finished strongly to win by three-quarters of a length from Brown Lap, who beat Supreme Ruler by a length and a half. Etcetera was fourth, followed by Huskie, Record Flight, Sir Val, Horowhenua, Wee Pat and Campanero. High-weight Handicap. In the High-Weight Handicap, chief fancies were Ornamental, Gigantic and Sir Willonyx. Prince of Orange, Ruling King, Sir Willonyx and Courthaven began best, the order along the back being Sir Willonyx and Ruling King, with Prince of Orange and Courthaven on terms next. Then came Glenrata, Gigantic and Ornamental. The lastnamed began to move up crossing the top and, turning for home, Sir Willonyx had charge from Ruling King and Courthaven, who were on terms with Glenrata and Ornamental, who were also together next, with Gigantic moving up. Gigantic challenged strongly over the last furlong, but failed to reach Courthaven by a length, with Ornamental a similar distance away. Ruling King, Glenrata, Prince of Orange and Sir Willonyx were next. Chevalier Handicap. In the Chevalier Handicap, Lagoon was in most demand, while Coronis and Alpinus also got solid support. Gold Pocket, Gold Musk and Lagoon got the worst of the start. Expectancy began quickest from Alpinus, Chief CHerk, Roman Mascot and Solarium. Then came Delrain, Wait and See and Golden Sceptre. The order was the same across the top and Expectancy was first into the straight from Roman Mascot, Alpinus and Coronis, with Lagoon, Solarium and Wait and See next. In a close finish Expectancy held on to win by a head from Coronis, who beat Alpinus by a neck, and Solarium was fourth. Then came Roman Mascot, Wait and See, Lagoon, Gold Pocket and Delrain. Jonathan’s Course Record. In a solid betting race on the Foley Memorial, most money came for Jonathan, Master Brierly and Gay Broney, the first-named winning decisively. As they passed the stand Gay Broney was leading Carfex, Chief Cook and Psychologist, with L’Allegro, Prolyxo, King March, Curie, Jonathan and Royal Artist next, and Master Brierly last. Gay Broney and Carfex were together in front along the back from Psychologist, Chief Cook and L’Allegro, with Prolyxo and King March on terms next and Jonathan and Master Brierly further back. The order was the same across the top, where Jonathan began to move up and entering the straight the order was: Gay Broney and Carfex on terms about three lengths ahead of Chief Cook and Jonathan, with King March, L’Allegro and Psychologist next. The two leaders were fighting out the finish half-way down the straight when Jonathan put in his claim and won by a length and a half from Carfex, with King March a neck away. Curie was fourth, with L’Allegro, Gay Broney and Chief Cook following. The time was a course and Auckland provincial record. Railway Handicap. For the Railway Handicap, most support was accorded Exaggeration, Sinking Fund and British Columbia, but Puss Moth proved too good, winning by a narrow margin. When they were let go Puss Moth, British Columbia, Exaggeration and Hampton Park begun best, the last-named leading across the top from British Columbia, Sinking Fund, Puss Moth, Exaggeration and Lia Fail. was the same in the straight, and Puss Moth, who came through on the rails, got up t& beat Hampton Park by a neck, with British Columbia a length and a half away. Sinking Fund was fourth, with Exaggeration and Lia Fail next.
