SOLICITOR'S DEATH.
The death has occurred at Stewart Island, after a. short illness, of Mr W. G. Aspinall, who for many years practised as a barrister and solicitor in Temuka. Mr Aspinall was born in London in 1854, and came to New Zealand in 1875. He served his articles with Mr B. C. Haggitt, Crown Solicitor, Dunedin, and was admitted to the Bar in 1882 by Mr Justice Williams. Shortly afterwards he commenced practice in Temuka, and in 1889 took into partnership Mr J. W. Salmond, who afterwards became Professor of Law at Adelaide University, and subsequently a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, Mr Aspinall held many public offices
in Temuka. He was a member of the Temuka Road Board, before it became merged in the Geraldine County Council, and also of the Arowhenua Cemetery and Domain Boards. He was one of the originators of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation So-j ciety, and acted as secretary for many years, and afterwards served as a
member of the council. He was solicitor to the society and to the Temuka Borough Council. At one time he owned a flour mill In Temuka.
He retired from practice about eight years ago, and went to live with his son in Stewart Island. His wife predeceased him about seven years ago
and he leaves a family of two daughters, Mrs A. R. Guild (Temuka) and Miss M. Aspinall (Christchurch), and four sons, Messrs lan Aspinall (Timaru), Mr Guy Aspinall (Stewart Is-
land), and Messrs Lance and Brian Aspinall (Australia). One son, Mr Denis Aspinall. was killed at the Great War.
