STOLE A BICYCLE.

Ran Away When Accosted by Watchman.

A young boy was charged at the Children’s Court this morning with stealing a bicycle, valued at £3. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., presided, and associated with him was Mrs T. Green, J.P. Police evidence showed that the boy had been riding along the footpath at night, when a watchman stopped him. He dropped the cycle and ran away. The watchman followed him and, after finding out where he lived, reported the matter to the police. Sergeant Hyland added that the boy had been perfectly frank, and had known that he was doing wrong. He had also admitted stealing several other cycles. The boy was admitted to the care of the Child Welfare Department. Converted Motor-cycle.

Two brothers were charged with converting a motor-cycle to their own use. Police evidence was given that the boys had been seen wheeling a motor-cycle away. When accosted, they had said that they had been going to try and ride it. They were fined 5s each. Three boys who had broken several electric lamps were admonished and discharged. Four boys who had carved their names into a planlc used as a seesaw in Elmwood Park were admonished and discharged. Evidence was given that the boys had carved their names so deeply that the plank could not be used w r ith safety. Their parents were ordered to pay 2s 6d each.
