Restoration of Wage Cuts.
** WOULD BE less poverty in the Dominion to-day if the wages had not been reduced.” said the Mayor of Takapuna, Mr J. Guiniven, at a meeting of the borough council, when a letter was received from the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies’ Association requesting an expression of opinion regarding the restoration of reductions in wages, the “Herald” reports. " Although this council is not in a position to make full restoration of wages cuts, I think the local bodies should call a conference to consider the matter.” Mr M. L. Wilkins expressed the opinion that if restoration were to be carried out successfully, it would have to be done throughout the Dominion. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy with the principle of restoring wages cuts, and it was decided to write to the Mayor of Auckland, suggesting that a conference of local bodies be convened to discuss the matter fully.
