ST BEDE’S COLLEGE.

Visit of Inspection by Archbishop Mannix. A visit of inspection was made to St Bede’s College by the Right Rev Dr Mannix, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, this morning. The bovs of the college were drawn up in two lines one on each side of the drive, to greet nis Grace, who was met on his arrival by the Rev Father A. L. Burger sM. After inspecting the buildings, the party gathered in the assembly hall. In welcoming the guests Father Burger thanked Bishop Rrodio for arranging the visit. His Grace was one of the highest educationists in the Church, and they wished him every happiness during his short stay. , Grace, who was greeted with cheers when he rose to reply, said he was deeply grateful for the opportunity V- Slt Uie school. One of the objects of his visit was to take part in the great celebrations in Wellington in connection with Archbishop Redwood’s jubilee. The fathers and some of the boys would have realised what a great figure Archbishop Redwood was He was one of the oldest bishops in the world and one of the most distinguished His Grace said he had come not only to pay his own tribute, but to try to represent the people of Australia, where the Archbishop was intimately known. Archbishop Mannix also spoke on the Eucharistic Congress, which it was proposed to hold in December. He said It gave them the opportunity to show the people of the world the work of the Church from the points of view of numbers and strength and of the solidity of the faith.
