GOOD IMPRESSION.
Reception of Chilled Beef at Smithfield. Pw Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 16. Mr Forbes to-day received the following cable from the High Commissioner, Sir James Parr:—“To-day is a red-letter day at Smithfield for New Zealand. I have examined the shipment of chilled beef which has just arrived by the Sultan Star. It was placed on London and provincial markets this morning by Weddel and Co. after a thirty-two days' voyage, and thirty-five days after the ‘ date of slaughter. Experts agree that the condition is faultless and the quality exceptional. The prime carcases compare favourably with the best Argentine. The success of the shipment reflects the greatest credit on all concerned in the work of transport, loading operations and shipping services. The market is, without question, most favourably impressed over this first successful attempt as regards both Australia and New Zealand to trade on a commercial basis in chilled beef. It is a good augury for a successful and permanent trade if similar quality is produced in adequate quantities." "
