OPPORTUNITY COURSES
Y.W.C.A. Plans Classes for New Year. “ Opportunity Courses ” are being offered again to the girls of the community by the Y.W.C.A. They are planned so that girls who have leisure time in the afternoons, either because they are helping at home or are waiting for employment, may have the chance to use that time profitably. To those who desire to prepare for a vocation two courses are offered, salesmanship and needlework. These classes are held on four afternoons each week from 2.30-3.30 p.m., and are followed each day by half an hour of physical drill or folk-dancing. A general cultural period is planned, which varies each day, music, drama, handicrafts and team games or sports. Similar classes were run most successfully last year. Nearly all the girls who attended the salesmanship course have obtained employment, and that course will be repeated this year. If sufficient girls join who are desirousi of following other vocational lines) such as cookery, arts and crafts, etc./ these may be added. The fee for a course of twelve weeks is 2s 6d.
