ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY
At the monthly meeting of the coun cil of the Royal Empire Society, held on Thursday, Mr A. E. Flower presided over a good attendance of members. A large amount of correspondence between branches and the .parent society in London was received. The Montreal branch wrote asking for samples of raw materials produced in New Zealand for permanent exhibition in their headquarters, to serve in demonstrating what the Empire produces. In this connection the society is seeking the assistance of Lincoln College and the Department of Agriculture. Further arrangements are in hand for the function to be held on Empire Day, May 24. At the next social evening the subject for discussion w ill be “ The General Pacific Situation.” The following quotation on a card conveying Christmas and New Year greetings from the council of the parent society is quot'ed hereunder as being of interest: "O Qod, grant us a vision of our Empire, fair as she might be; an Empire of justice; where none shall prey on others; an Empire of plenty, where vice and poverty shall cease to fester; an Empire of brotherhood, where all success shall be founded on service and honour shall be given to nobleness alone; an Empire of peace where order shall not rest on force, but on the love of all for the Empire,-the great Mother of the common life and wea].' , _Adapted by courtesy of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
