WARNING TO BRITAIN.
Democracy at Stake, Says Manifesto. LONDON, February 15. ■ “ Democracy is at stake. The' world is confronted with a wave of violence in political thought and action,” says a manifesto signed by 145 noted church men, politicians, scientists and publicists, presented through Mr Alfred Barrett Brown and published in the “ News Chronicle.” “ There are signs even in Britain," says the manifesto, “of a readiness to appeal to passions instead of to reason and persuasion. The intimidating behaviour of the Black Shirts is already becoming a public nuisance and the language of the Communists is no less militant. Moreover, both bodies scorn democratic institutions and advocate dictatorial methods.”
