COLLUSION ALLEGED.
U.S. Government Reply to Air Mail Protests. CANCELLED CONTRACTS. United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON. February 14. In answer to widespread protest* against the cancellation of air mail con* tracts, the Postmaster-General, Mr J. A. Farley, published a detailed statement to-day declaring that the contracts were obtained by “ conspiracy or collusion.’' The statement sav3 that all the companies concerned held conferences with Mr Hoover's postal officials, when they divided the routes and decided upon the bids they would offer. In the meantime the Senate has declared that two airways officials. William MacCracken, junior, and L. H. Britten, are guilty of contempt for destroying correspondence in connection with the allotment of air mail contracts, which was under Government subpoena. They have been sentenced to ten days’ imprisonment in the District of Columbia gaol.
