GIRLS' CRICKET.
Representative Team for Wanganui. The Canterbury representative team appears to hold an excellent chance of success in the forthcoming Dominion ladies’ cricket tournament to be held m Wanganui during the carnival week there. The tournament, one of the chief carnival attractions, will be played in Cook’s Gardens on February 21 and 22, and the winning team will hold the Amalgamated Theatres Shield and, virtually, the New Zealand championship. The Canterbury side, a strong and well-balanced combination that should acquit itself with credit, has been selected as follows:—Misses R. Symons
.(captain), B. Te Rangi (vice-captain), J. Webster, D. Preece, E. Berland, V. Bel worthy, M. Preece, E. Hooper, P. Taylor, M. Marks, M. Kennerley and E. Jones. The captain and vice-captain are the same as for last year’s team, Miss Symons and Miss Te Rangi, who, besides ha Vine proved leadership ability, are the two best all-rounders in the girls’ competition. With Misses B Te Rangi, E. Berland, R. Symons and V. Belworthy, aided by other good change bowlers, the team presents a formidable attack, while Miss Sy r mons. Miss Te Rangi, Miss D. Preece and Miss M. Preece form the nucleus of a solid batting side. Fielding, which was rather below standard, has been considerablv improved by combined practice so that, as the side includes two good wicket-keepers in J. Webster and D. Preece, Canterbury shottld be well served in that important department of play. The team will be in the charge of Miss A. Scott, chairman of the Canterbury Association, and will leave for Wanganui on Monday. Canterbury will play Wanganui B on the first day and then if successful in that game will meet the winner of the Wellington v. Wanganui A match in the final.
