VICTORIA LEAGUE.

Plans for Garden Party and Annual Meeting. A meeting: of the committee of the Victoria League was held on Tuesday, Mrs W. S. Bean being: in the chair. Others present were—Mesdames Deans (president), G. Hanmer. J. Anderson, E. G. Hogg. F. Scott, J. G. L. Vernon, R. H. Henna h and C. Chilton, Misses M’Owen, R. Tabart, C. Gosset, Overton, and M. Skoglund (secretary) and Mr J. D. Fairhurst (honorary treasurer). Final arrangements were made for the garden party at Ricearton House on February 20 to meet Mrs Carey Hill. It was decided to hold the annual meeting in the Jellieoe Hall on Wednesday, March 21. Members were asked to bring newspapers or magazines for distribution among settlers in the outlying districts. Miss Skoglund reported having linked up 100 'children for correspondence. Mrs R. H. Hermah reported that she had sent out 400 parcels of books and magazines since last meeting, and was badly in need of further supplies. Literature was received from Mr Chas. Clark, Miss Colin Pyne and Dr Orooke. Miss Drayton, secretary of the home branch. wrote expressing thanks for the articles contributed to the Victoria League monthly notes by Miss Jacobsen (Akaroa), “ Banks Peninsula”; Mr Mannering. “Franz Jnsef Glacier”; and Mr Foweraker, “Forestry in Canterbury. ’ Several new members were elected.
