Fendalton Sub-centre Holds Annual Meeting.

Owing perhaps to the wet weather, there was a poor Attendance of members at the first annual meeting of the Fencla.lton sub-centre of the Red Cross Society held yesterday afternoon in St Barnabas Schoolroom. Mrs J. W. K. Lawrence, who presided, reported that during the three months in which the sub-centre was in existence last winter 489 garments had been forwarded to the central depot. The membership stood at 125. a figure which, she hoped, would be increased this year. The sewing bee would re-commenc'e its weekly meetings on Monday, April 9, and Mrs J. F. Buchanan had again offered the use of her room. Before that time Mrs Lawrence asked members to collect worn garments, boots, shoes and pieces of material to be sent to the depot. Money, she said, could be made by increasing the business at the weekly table anrJ by making quilts and eiderdowns to order. She presented the balance-sheet, which showed that cash in hand amounted to £5 12s 9d. The Fendalton sub-centre will be responsible for the sweets stall at the Red Cross garden fete to be held at Lady Wigram’s house in Park Terrace, and ways and means of canvassing the district for sweets were discussed. Members of the committee will be on duty at the stall with Miss Wilkin assisting them. Officers for the coming year were re-elected as follows: president, Mrs J. W. K.
