If one cares to look up the telephone directory there will be seen listed: Cook. Thos. and Son, Wagons-Lits, Australasian Pty., Ltd., Why “ WagonsLits”? The two words are the French equivalent of " Sleeping Car, ’ and the explanation of its incorporation in the name of the firm was given last evening by the manager in Australia and New Zealand, Mr R. J. Anwyl. He said that all the sleeping cars on the. international through expresses in Europe and most of the express trains were run by a company, the International Sleeping Car Company, and all transport de luxe was composed of coaches owned by that company. The same company ran the restaurant cars. Cook’s were the selling agents and the two companies were now amalgamated. In Europe it was practically impossible to travel without using the service. The amalgamation of the companies was responsible for the incorporation of the French equivalent in the designation of the firm.
