GALLANT RESCUE.

British Officer Saves Greek’s Life. British Official Wirelesn. (Received February 15, 1.15 p.m.) RUGBY, February 14. A gallant action by Evan Rowlands, fourth officer of the steamship Dartford, saved the life of a seaman of the Greek steamer, Maiandross, which was sunk in a collision on Monday night. Hearing a cry from the water, Rowlands seized a line and jumped overboard. He managed to find the man despite thick fog, and putting the line round him, kept him afloat until both were hauled aboard. The Maiandross sank almost immediately, but the remainder of the crew, numbering twenty-seven, were picked up in an open boat by the British steamer Eleth and landed at Portland Bill. They had lost all their effects and had to be fitted out with clothing and boots.
