SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

Repairs and Renovations at Sydenham. Those present at the February meeting of the Sydenham School Committee were: Messrs J. G. Brown (chairman), G. H. Bishop, H. M. Fletcher, H. W. Di-ewery. A. Milne, J. H. Pratt, T. Trenberth and W. A. Webb. The chairman referred to the illness of the head master Mr W. A. Rumbold, and members expressed their sympathy. Correspondence was received from the Education Board advising that various repairs and renovations had been carried out, and it was decided to forward thanks to the board lor the work. The number of children on the roll for tlie commencement of the year was 892. The Visiting Committee reported that everything was in order. The whole of the grounds were tar-sealed, and in connection with this special mention was made of the efficient work of the caretaker. It was decided to hold the picnic on Thursday. March S, at the Riccarton racecourse, and a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Brown, Pratt and Bishop, was appointed to make arrangements. Messrs Bishop and Fletcher were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. Opawa. At a meeting of the Opawa School Committee it was decided to remind the Education Board of the requirement previously asked for. Miss B. Hurley has taken up her duties as infant mistress. and Miss E. Parker as assistant mistress. Miss Hale, who has been on an extended holiday in the Old Country, has also resumed duty. Messrs V. Blakley, T. H. Dephoff and L. W. Ray were empowered to prepare a report and balance-sheet for the next meeting. The annual picnic, which was to have been held at Leeston, was postponed on account of wet weather. It has now been decided to hold the picnic at Leeston on Friday, February 23. Papanui. The Papanui School Committee met on Monday evening, Mr L. Claridge presiding. Mr W. G. Cartwright, the new-ly-appointed head master, was present. He reported a roll number of 224. Miss Paynter had been transferred from the Shirley School under the scheme for giving work to unemployed teachers. Miss Foote and Mr M’Fedries had been appointed to the school and Miss Harrison was relieving until a permanent teacher was appointed. It was decided to appoint Mr W. F. Waller pianist at the social evening, as Mr T. Mayne is leaving the district. It was decided to open up a tennis court and to purchase the necessary material.
