NEW ZEALAND BACON.
More Attention to Scientific
Feeding Needed.
Closer attention to the principles Of scientific feeding is necessary if New Zealand pig breeders desire to obtain a larger share of the British bacon market.
This opinion was expressed by Dr M. C. Franklin, assistant-lecturer in the department of chemistry at Lincoln College, who returned to Christchurch this morning, after spending two years and a half at Cambridge University, studying problems of animal nutrition, and investigating animal diseases. Dr Franklin stated that British and Continental farmers had a far better knowledge of the principles of scientific feeding than New Zealand farmers. This was partly accounted for by the fact that the winters were more severe, and more concentrated foods were fed to the animals.
