MAYOR SUPPORTED.
Protest Against Labour Officer’s Action. Representatives of all Canterbury trade unions who attended a special meeting convened by the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council on Saturday evening pledged themselves to support the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) in his protest against the action of the officer in charge of the Labour Department at Christchurch (Mr R. T. Bailey), in summoning the police to the Rapaki relief job during the recent dispute. It was also decided “ that the Minister of Labour be reminded that the persons who have sponsored resolutions commending the actions of the Labour officer are attached to businesses against whifch the Labour Department has declined to take action in spite of the fact that substantiated evidence has been submitted.”
