Fitness of Motormen.
Dear Sir,—There is a lot of correspondence at present about wages and reinstatement of some of the old hands on the trams. Reinstatement has a lot to recommend it, as many of these men are tried men, who have proved to the public they are mentally and physically fit, therefore being capable men in charge of hundreds of lives daily. It seems incredible that men are allowed to hold the position of tramdrivers without being subjected to a most rigid medical overhaul. Even after being appointed as drivers they should come under a medical examination at least every year. There is no doubt that if the men holding the position of drivers went under an examination many of them would be found subject to heart trouble, fits and other maladies too numerous to mention. —I am, etc., TRAM PASSENGER.
