UNEMPLOYED WOMEN.
Distribution of Free Dinners. A meeting of the general committee of the Women’s Unemployment Committee was held yesterday; present: Mrs A. I. Fraer (presiding), Mesdames Barrell, Blackaby, Denniff, Roberts, Misses Cardale, Havelaar, Sanders and Jones. Reports were received that 122 women and girls are employed in the centres, 11 have been placed in positions, with 181 on the live list The cookery report showed that 951 dinners had been served for the fortnight. The distribution of dinners to necessitous cases had been recommenced, but transport had been difficult to arrange for Saturdays. It was requested that those willing to assist on Saturdays should ring the secretary. Miss R. Williams had been appointed supervisor in the training centre. The committee acknowledges gifts from Mrs Peat, Auntie Brown, Mrs Wood and Miss Pratt.
