PERSONAL.

MINISTERIAL. The Hon J. Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, who has been visiting South Canterbury, will spend the weekend at his home in Waimate. Mr Bitchener will pass through Christchurch on Monday evening on his way to Wellington. The Hon Adam Hamilton, Minister of Employment, who has been visiting Nelson, left for Wellington last evening en route to the Waitangi celebrations. Mr A. Smith, of Wanganui, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr P. M’Skimming, M.P., arrived from Wellington this morning. Mr R. G. Forbes arrived from the north this morning. Mr J. Cuttle, of Sydney, is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr G. M. Broughton, Invercargill, is visiting Christchurch. Mr Hubert Carter returned this morning to the city after a holiday at Waimate and Gore Bay. Messrs J. K. Storrie (Wellington) and J. C. Pirrit (Auckland) are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr R. Clark, of Hamilton, Waikato, who has been spending a few days in Christchurch returned north last evening. Mr W. G. Fernie, general manager of the Calder Mackay Co., has left on a trip to Auckland. Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., left for the north last evening to attend the Waitangi celebrations. Mr H. Holland, M.P., left Christchurch last evening to attend the Waitangi celebrations. Later he will attend the Methodist Conference in -Wellington. Messrs T. Yarr (Timaru), W. W. King (Auckland) and Z. Lazarus (Sydney) arrived this morning, and are staying at the United Service Hotel. The Rev J. R. Hervey and Mrs Hervey and family (the vicarage, Shirley) have returned from a holidayVpent in Timaru. Mr J. M’Pherson, M.P. for Oamaru, was a passenger by the ferry steamer last evening en route for the Waitangi celebrations. Mr W. Goodfellow will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow and will stay at the United Service Hotel. He will later visit Invercargill. Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs W. B. Sturmer (Dunedin), W. Ritchie (Dunedin) and J. W. Smith (Invercargill). Mr A. H. C. Orr, formerly manager of the Sydenham branch of the Bank of New Zealand, is on a visit to Christchurch from Sydney. Mr R. A. Anderson, of Invercargill, a member of the Local Bodies’ Loans Board, arrived from Wellington this morning.

Mr R. M’Gillivray, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, who has been visiting Wellington on departmental business, has returned to Christchurch.

Captain W. L. D. Gundry, of Dereizes, Wiltshire, a native of Christchurch, is visiting the city after an absence of thirty-three years. He will leave for England again in March.

Dr Ford and Dr Mistowski have been appointed Trinity College of Music examiners in Australia, and Mr Anderson Tyrer and Dr James Lyon in New Zealand. Mr N. E. Hutchins, private secretary to the Minister of Public Works, spent yesterday in Christchurch and left by the ferry steamer for Wellington last evening.

Mr A. E. W. Hazel, principal of Jesus College, Oxford, who has been staying at Hanmer, returned to Christchurch yesterday afternoon and is a guest at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr J. R. M’Kenzie was granted seven months’ leave of absence by the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association at its meeting last evening. Mr M’Kenzie leaves to-day for England and members extended their best wishes to him.

His Honor Mr Justice Johnston, the newly appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, arrived from Wellington this morning. He is a guest at the United Service Hotel. Mr Justice Johnston will take his seat on the Bench for the first time at next Nveek’s sittings of the Supreme Court in Christchurch.

The Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College last night adopted a report of the Appointments Committee, which stated that the appointment of Mr F. Hutchings as cabinet-making instructor in place of Mr W. Bridge had been approved by the Education Department, and that Mr Hutchings had accepted the position.
