A THIEF’S BRAVERY.
Release From Prison Earned. LONDON, December 17. A thief’s rescue of a boy from drowning in a Birmingham canal has resulted in remission of the remainder of his sentence. The Royal Humane Society awarded the rescuer its diploma, but when it tried to deliver this award found that the man was in gaol for having stolen coal. The Chief Constable was so struck with the details of the prisoner’s plucky action that he wrote to the Home .Secretary, who assented to a request that the man should be released. The Birmingham police are now trying to find him a job.
