YIELD OF WHEAT.

Frost Should Not Create Shortage. SOUTHERN CROPS GOOD. Some observations on the statement that the frost of over a fortnight ago would, combined with the dry weather, mean a difference of probably eight bushels to the acre, were made by an authority on wheat this morning. He said that the estimate of effect on the general average yield was based on the damage done to crops north of the Selvvvn, but it must be remembered that up to the present no reports of damage had been received from the South Canterbury, Ashburton or Methven districts, which areas combined grew a large proportion of the total crop of New Zealand. The crops in those districts were reported to be looking very well indeed, and they should improve the general average yield. (An earlier report concerning the damage caused by frost appears on page 19.)
