INTERESTING FIND.

Workmen Dig Up Supposed Maori Net. While digging a trench at the intersection of Manchester and Gloucester Streets to re-lay gas-mains to-day, workmen found what is thought to be the remains of a Maori net of some sort. The net, which was found at a depth of six feet, consists of some flax or similar material, brown with age and decayed to a certain extent, but still retaining a certain amount of strength. It will be handed over to the Museum authorities. In addition to the net a bone, about eight inches long, was dug up; a number of pieces of wood, about an inch long and a quarter of an inch in diameter, have also been found during the last few days. The pieces of wood are slightly elastic. The site where the discoveries were made was possibly at one time the bank of a river.
