TEMPERANCE UNION.

Young People Hold Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the New Brighton branch of the Young People’s Christian Temperance Union was held at Mrs E. D. Bernstein's residence in Collingwood Street. Mrs M. Moses presided, and there were present representatives from Sumner. Christchurch and Aranui branches, Mrs Lowry (district superintendent. and Mrs H. M. Hall ( vice-president). The election of officers resulted as follows:—Superintendent, Mrs M. Moses; secretary. Miss D. Moses: treasurer, Mrs C. Edwards; Press reporter. Miss M. Rondel; scientific temperance, Miss O. Coddington. Riccarton Union, The annual meeting of the Riccarton Branch of the Young People’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the St Ninian’s Schoolroom. The president (Mr L. Clements) presided. The following officers were elected lor the ensuing year: Superintendent. Miss W. Lovell-Smith: president. Mr G. Da Hard: honorary secretary. Miss H. Matthews; assistant secretary. Miss C. M’Ailister: treasurer, Mr P. Clements: temperance fact reader. Miss Gwen Ryan. The “ Y ’’ journal was read after the meeting. Supper was served by the memAFTERNOON PARTY. A pleasant afternoon was spent on Saturday, when members of the execufive of the Canterbury Association of the Federation of University women met at the club rooms, Montreal Street, to honour their treasurer. Miss Olive Talbot, whose marriage will take place next week. Miss A. F. Ironside and Mrs J, H. Kidd were the hostesses. Miss Talbot, who wore a pretty frock of soft, leaf-green crinkle-crepe and a smart white straw hat. received a number of dainty handkerchiefs and d’oyleys from her cot'reres. A competition was won by Mrs A. H. focker and Miss Talbot. The guests were: Mesdames Andrew Duncan Lewis Morrison, A. H. Tocher and C ’E. W. VVaeher: Misses B. A. Chaplin. Ellen Jones, M. Kennedy. M. Wilkinson M Reese and M- Talbot.
