BEACH WEAR DISPLAY.

Parade Staged at Theatre Royal. With the arrival of summer weather, vouth turns its thoughts towards the sea, lazy days on the sand, exhilarating plunges into the surf, sunbathing, tanned backs and limbs. The management of the Theatre Royal, wich an eye to the practical, has chosen to show young Christchurch what It should wear on these occasions, and has introduced a mannequin parade of beach wear as a prelude to the presentation of the picture, “ I Cover the Waterfront,” which is being shown at the theatre this week. Disporting themselves in an appropriate setting of gaily striped tents, beach umbrellas and canvas lounge chairs, a bevy of pretty girls display a variety of smart bathing suits, jaunty beach pyjamas, and backless frocks and floppy sun-hats. While most of the snug-fitting bathing suits feature the new backless vogue one or two cater for the bathers of delicate skin a modestly-cut V or U hack providing protection from too much of the sun’s rays. The backless styles, however, provide plenty of variety, narrow straps cunningly arranged giving assurance of comfort and preventing sagging with the weight of the water. Wool net insertions, slashings. bindings and strappings in contrasting colours give a smart appearance to many. Vivid blues and greens soft rose or rust, mustard and white and black form the main foundation shades. Saucy print pyjamas feature in the parade, in fine checks or narrow stripes. One masculine-looking suit has a white shirt blouse and well-cut belted trousers of pansy blue. A jaunty pyjama ensemble with a nautical air in green and white checks, is worn with a tiny plain green jacket and a white French bpret. An attractive beach frock in red and white checks is backless, but has a smart coatee to add when the breeze is cool. A touch of humour is introduced when two girls parade in the now grotesque stvles reminiscent of grandmother’s day—a subtle reference to the ” neok-to-knee ” ruling for wear at Sumner. The parade is carried out in conjunction with the P.I.C. (beach wear). Max Factor make-up products. “ Pacific bathing suits, and Dahl. Ltd., of Palmerston North (beach equipment).
