GARDEN FETES.
Gathering at Kaiapoi. A successful garden fete in aid of St Paxil’s Presbyterian Church. Kaiapoi, was held at the residence of Dr and Mrs W. H. Aiken on Saturday afternoon. The fete was officially opened by the Rev G. IV. Hercus. There was a large attendance, and the stalls and competitions were well patronised. During the afternoon a display of gymnastics was given by the boys of the Bligh’s Road Orphanage, under Mr V. French, and a copper trail competition between the north and south sides of the river was won by the north side. Other competitions were won as follow: Stepping, Mr J. Braislier; nail-driving, Mr H. Palmer; treasure hunt, Mrs J. O'Connor; Christmas cake. Mrs J. C. Simpson and Mrs Neale (equal). Those who assisted at the various stalls were:—Christmas-tree, Misses L. Taylor and E. Britisher; cake stall. Misses Becks and J. Simpson; sweets, Misses R. Livingstone and C. Bajc; work stall. Misses J. Stark and I. Bloxam; afternoon tea. Miss M. Stark and the girls clubs. Rangiora. A garden .party, held in the grounds of Mrs M. A. Lance, King Street, Rangiora. on Saturday afternoon, in aid of the Women's Auxiliary Mission funds, was well attended. Stalls for the sale of gifts of various kinds were arranged about the grounds, and were well patronised. An added attraction was a Christmas-tree, which gave the children a good deal of enjoyment. A maypole dance was given by Miss Rogers’s i pupils. Proceedings were enlivened by | the Rangiora Junior Band, which play- ' ed musical selections and hymns throughout the afternoon.
