TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

Meeting of Board of Governors. A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College was held last evening, Mr M’Gregor Wright presiding. The Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) advised that Parliamentary duties would probably prevent him presenting certificates and prizes to students in the Civic Theatre on Friday, December 15, at 7.30 p.m. If unable to attend, he would be pleased to arrange for Mrs Sullivan and the Deputy-Mayor (the Rev J. K. Archer) to represent him. The Appointments Committee reported that, subject to the approval of 'the Education Department, arrangements* should be made at the request of the Provincial Superior of the Marist Order tor a vacation course in school hygiene the course to be taken by one of the college instructors, the fee to be paid direct to him for his work, and an allowance to the board for each student for material used. The report- was adopted. It was agreed to support the view ° f 1 - . Au ckland Technical College authorities that agriculture should be placed second only to English on the examination' syllabus. The Appointments Committee reported that it had reconsidered the follS-w----ing recommendation made at last meeting of the board: “That a sentence be mserted in the school prospectus asking parents who do not wish their bovs to drill in the cadet company to notify the principal.” The committee had dereaffirm it with the addition of the following words: “Who shall grant exemption accordingly.” The report was adopted. The examiners of the typography classes reported that the results were much better than those of the previous year. The junior students were particularly to be commended, and much credit was due to the instructor (Mr J. C. Wykes) for his painstaking efforts! Similar reports of steady progress were received from the examiners in woolclassing. plumbing and carpentry and joinery. The carpentry and joinery examiners expressed disappointment at the small number of apprentices attending the classes. Out of a total of thirty-one in the classes only fifteen were apprentices. They would like to see more advantage taken of the facilities of the college.
