SENTENCES OF DEATH.

Question for Consideration by Executive Council. ("Star” Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, November 29. For the first time in recent history the Executive Council of New Zealand has awaiting its consideration the question of confirming the sentence of death passed in two murder cases. In the past there has never been more than one case to occupy its attention at any one time. Consideration will probably be given at Monday’s meeting of the Council, over which the Gover-nor-General (Lord Bledisloe) will preside, to the case of Edwards, who was convicted of murder at Auckland. It is not likely that the case of James, who was convicted for murder at Wellington, be considered until the following week. No sentence of death can be carried out in the Dominion unless it is confirmed by the Executive Council.
