Cyclist on His Way to Dunedin. In an attempt to break the unpaced cycling record of 14hr 53min set by W. Oldman in 1911 for the 238-mile journey between Christchurch and Dunedin, a Christchurch rider, L. G. Fleming, left the city at 4.5 ajn. to-day, and when last reported was going well. A message from Geraldine received in Christchurch at 10 a.m. stated that Fleming reached that town in 4 hours 48 minutes’ riding time, and had then encountered a strong head wind. By encountered a strong head wind. He reached Timaru in 6hr Bmin and Oamaru in 9hr 43min. He was delayed between Geraldine and Oamaru by bad weather, head winds and sickness. Fleming’s ride is being followed by officials of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Cycling Union and his time is being checked at various points along the journey.
