Through an ordinary seaman named Pat Gallavan becoming seriously ill while the inter-colonial steamer Wainui was en route from Wellington to Oamaru, the vessel called at, Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon in order that he might receive medical attention. Shortly after the arrival of the vessel in port Dr B. 11. Gilmour went on board and ordered the seaman’s removal to hospital. The vessel sailed for Oamaru after spending about an hour and a half in port.
