CHILDREN’S PARTY.

Colourful and Original Costumes. ST CHAD’S PARISH. 0 A colourful scene was created by the gay frocks of the many children at the Canberra Hall, Linwood, on Saturday afternoon, when a fancy dress party was held for the little folk by the Ladies’ Guild of St Chad’s Church. The party was arranged to assist the funds of the church, and also to give entertainment to the children of the parish. Those in charge of the arrangements were: Mesdames E. S. Southward, Herbert Smith, A. Hoare, R. Richards, W. Harley, T. Stanhope, W. Wright, assisted by Mr and Mrs P. J. Taylor and Miss Richards. Items given by Joyce Dean and Patricia Collins, pupils of Mi£s Vaughan, and Mr W. Wing (ventriloquist) delighted the children. A fancy work stall in charge of Mrs Herbert Smith and Mrs E. S. Southward did good business. Afternoon tea was served by a committee of ladies. The judges, Mrs Slater and the Misses Cresswell (2), awarded prizes as follows:—Best costume: Girl, -inder five years, Billie Armstrong (Old Fashioned Lady); boy, Pat Lilly (Jockey): five to seven years, Carol Taylor (Dolly Varden) ; boy, Peter Bar tram (Beefeater); seven to ten years, Noeleen Wilson (English Boy) and Eric Tebay (Blacksmith). Best costume: Over ten years, Doreen Parry (Harem Lady) and Eric Sutton (Maori). Most original costume: Girl, Dawn Carson (Mother’s Baking Day); boy, Ken Wicks (Fruit Store). Most original costume, ten years and over, Eunice M'Laughlan (Self Help), and a special prize in this section .was awarded Betty Amierson (Granny). Cheapest costumed*. Ruth Green (Australian Flower Girl) and Don Dickson (Sign of the Times). Best paper dresses: Maud Wilson (Snowballs), Beatrice Robinson (Players), and Donald M’Cree (Sun). Mrs E. S. Southward presented the prizes, and Mrs Smith was the pianist.
