TRAMWAY ELECTION.
Meeting Decides to Support Mr W. J. Walter.
Support for Mr W. J. Walter in his candidature for the Avon—New Brighton sub-district, for the Christchurch Tramway Board election, was forthcoming at a well-attended meeting in the Mairehau Hall. Mr Walter has been a member of the board for the last sixteen years. Mr J. L. Parish, who presided, spoke of the splendid work Mr Walter had done on the board and other local bodies. Tramway matters and other questions affecting the district . were the subject of an address by the candidate. Mr J. Martin moved a vote of confidence in Mr Walter; also that those present form themselves into a committee to secure his return at the forthcoming election. The mover said that not only in tramway matters but also in matters affecting the whole community, Mr Walter had rendered valuable service. The motion was seconded by Mr J. Bettridge and carried. Mr Parish was elected chairman of the committee and Mr A. Moore secretary.
