1914 ALL OVER AGAIN.

Disquieting Outlook in Europe.

United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 4. It is understood that the British and French Governments are examining the question of the preparation for rearma- j ment allegedly made in Germany in contravention of the disarmament clauses of the Treaty of Versailles. “ The Times, ’ in an article, emphasises the disquieting similarities be- • tween to-day and August 4, 1614. The paper says: "The public are still uneasily doubtful whether victory over Germany was achieved. Germany is again the prime cause of European unsettlement. She is apparently deliberately attempting remilitarisation, and is preparing forcefully to unite herself with nationals over the borders. | She possesses the same fundamental disregard of treaties and complete inj ability to grasp the value of the | homely British principle of * live and i let live.’ German policy has little i changed since before the war, when it | alternated between paroxysms of bully- | ing and fervid protestations of friendj ship. The question is still whether the * ideals of personal and national liberty ! cherished by Britain and other nations ior German ruthlessness and State ! domination shall prevail. Some have learned the lessons, but the issue is still a live one.” The Paris correspondent of the I ” News-Chronicle ” states that the French Government has received fresh information which, it claims, proves Germany's intention to obtain war i aeroplanes and to rearm.
