During the concluding stage of the j Criminal Law Amendment Bill in the j South-West African Assembly, Dr | Hirsekom moved that the title be | changed to the Martial Law Ordinance Bill, but his motion was disallowed, j The ordinance makes it an offence to j threaten or incite to boycott, to make j propaganda, to wear foreign uniforms, i or to join any foreign political organisa- ■ tion which is subversive cf good gov | eminent. ! The Germans intend to petition the { Union Government to withhold sanc- ! tion. IMPOSSIBLE POSITION. i . 1 Nazis Active in South-West Africa. CAPE TOWN, August 4. An impossible position has arisen in South-West Africa owing to German members of the Assembly holding British naturalisation papers contend- ! ing that they still owe allegiance to Germany. j The Union Government has agreed !to recognise German as an official j language in the Mandated Territory, ! provided that a Bill is passed by the I South-West Assembly, for which pur- | pose the life of the Assembly has been ! extended for one year. Nazi-ism has asserted itself in the Territory lately, resulting in unpleasant incidents such as the hauling down of the Union Flag. Instructions for so doing appear to have been received from overseas. A resolution prohibiting the con- ; tinuance of Nazi propaganda was car- ! ried in the Assembly by 9 votes to 7.
